The Point closed for food safety violations

PHILIPSBURG--The Inspectorate of Public Health continues to clamp down on restaurants that violate the country’s food safety regulations with the closure of yet another restaurant on Thursday.

The Inspectorate held a major joint control at the Sonesta Maho Beach Resort and Casino on Thursday, and closed The Point restaurant at the facility just before noon.

Inspector General Dr. Earl Best said inspectors found pest infestation as well as a sewage pit in the middle of the kitchen which emits a foul odour. He doubts whether the establishment will be reopened by Monday.

Also part of the control were Social and Health Care Insurance SZV, the Fire Department, the Inspectorate’s Labour arm and immigration. Best said there were no labour infractions. He said the inspectorate will continue with its random controls as part of its zero tolerance policy.
