MARIGOT--The Collectivité in conjunction with the Department for Economic Development and Department of Transportation has organised training sessions for taxi drivers to reach a professional standard. The courses are for new taxi drivers and for taxi drivers whose professional licences have expired.

The training sessions are given by Valérien Niscoise, designated instructor from the Chamber of Trades in Guadeloupe. They started on August 3 and will finish on September 3. Future taxi drivers finished their theoretical course on August 25, obtaining a taxi licence either by succession from a parent, a death, or the ceasing of the activity. Nine taxi drivers followed the training and obtained approval.

Other taxi drivers who held expired professional licences followed a two-day course to renew their cards. This course finishes on September 3.
