ST. EUSTATIUS--Debuting author Juliette George, fondly called Julie by those that know her, held a book signing Sunday at Mazinga Gift Shop on the Bay for her book entitled Something Resides Within, which is filled with poems and quotes.
George recounted when she lived on St. Maarten and a hurricane hit the island in which all of her documents were destroyed. She said that when she moved to St. Eustatius her computer crashed and all of her information was also lost.
She said she has encountered a lot of tears and disappointment to reach to this stage of being able to publish her first book and hold her first book-signing event.
Commissioner Derrick Simmons, Island Councilman Koos Sneek, Acting Island Secretary Malvern Dijkshoorn-Lopes, advisor to Commissioner Simmons Siem Dijkshoorn and former Commissioner Astrid McKenzie-Tatem were among the persons that came out to show their support to George. To all the potential first-time authors out there, George encouraged them to continue their journey regardless of the many stumbling blocks that are placed before them.
She extended a special thank-you to everyone who supported her on her continuing journey. Emotions ran high for George as she looked back on her journey to this point during the book launch which otherwise had a very relaxing and mellow atmosphere.
