State of emergency declared for St. Maarten

~ Dutch Marines not informed ~

POND ISLAND--A state of emergency was finally declared for St. Maarten by the government on Thursday. However, up to this afternoon the top brass of the Dutch Military was not informed by government in writing about the declaration so this has stymied the restoration of law and order.  The Commander of the local military deployment said via radio station Laser 101 that without written confirmation from government not much can be done. When the order is received the military can use all means, including using deathly force, to halt lawless activities.

“The law will be enforced. We cannot have lawlessness anymore. It is what it has been. We put the past 48 hours behind us, but on a moving forward basis we cannot continue to operate the way we have been operating,” Marlin said on Laser 101, the only radio station operational after the monster storm.

This comes after monster Hurricane Irma slammed into the Dutch Caribbean island leaving total destruction and devastation in her wake.

Prime Minister William Marlin announced the state of emergency on Thursday evening the day after the hurricane passed and wide spread looting had taken hold of the country.
