PHILIPSBURG--Organisers of the recent Stand for SXM march are now endeavouring to form a foundation to continue pursuing its goals and had invited all political parties to suggest a representative to sit on the foundation’s board.
Parties were invited via phone calls and letter to a meeting on Monday, September 10, in which the next steps and decisions on the way forward will be discussed.
The foundation’s objectives are to champion autonomy for St. Maarten as described in the Constitution, to develop strategies to erase the current democratic deficit and to truly become an equal partner in the Dutch Kingdom, to encourage and develop cultural and patriotic awareness among St. Maarten residents.
