St. Maartener admits to stealing twenty cars

MARIGOT--A 30-year-old individual from St. Maarten was placed in provisional detention in Guadeloupe on Monday, as a hearing opened into aggravated thefts of vehicles by organised gangs.

Since the beginning of the year there has been a marked increase in serial car thefts in St. Martin. The St. Maartener in question admitted to investigators he had stolen 20 cars over a period of time.

On Saturday, April 14, Gendarmes arrested three persons in a stolen and disguised car as part of the investigation into car thefts.

The Gendarmerie is continuing the investigations into the occurrences.
