SYNOPSIS:
Moisture and instability associated with Tropical Storm Kirk will bring periodic cloudy skies, isolated showers and a chance of thunder during this forecast period. The most active weather period is currently moving away from St. Maarten.
Rough sea conditions with waves peaking at 11 feet are expected through tomorrow. A Small Craft Warning remains in effect for St. Maarten due to hazardous seas and winds. Small craft operators should exercise extreme caution, while sea bathers should avoid swimming.

SPECIAL FEATURE:
At 11:00 am, the center of Tropical Storm Kirk was located near latitude 13.8N north, longitude 63.6 west or about 300 miles south of St. Maarten. Kirk is moving toward the west-northwest near 13 mph with maximum sustained winds near 45 mph and higher gusts. Weakening to a tropical depression is forecast for tonight, and then Kirk will degenerate into a trough of low pressure as it moves away from the Lesser Antilles.
The center of Tropical Storm Kirk has passed approximately 300 miles south of St. Maarten and storm force winds extend up to 115 miles from the center. However, gusty winds, high seas and rainfall are still possible for the remainder of today.
The Meteorological Department St. Maarten will continue to monitor the progress of Tropical Storm Kirk and update the public accordingly.
