SYNOPSIS:
The weak Atlantic high pressure system will continue to generate mostly light easterly winds across the region. Meanwhile, a relatively dry and stable atmosphere will limit significant precipitation during this forecast period.
Seas are forecast to peak near 7 feet for the next several days due to swells invading local waters. Small craft operators and sea bathers should exercise caution.

SPECIAL FEATURE:
At 11:00 am, the center of Hurricane Isaac was located near latitude 14.7 north, longitude 43.9 west or about 1285 miles east-southeast of St Maarten. Isaac is moving toward the west near 14 mph with maximum sustained winds near 75 mph and higher gusts. Additional strengthening is expected over the next day or two. Weakening is forecast to begin by the middle of the week as Isaac approaches the Lesser Antilles.
At 11:00 am the center of Hurricane Helene was located near Latitude 14.6 north, longitude 30.0 west or about 2200 miles east-southeast of St. Maarten. Helene is moving toward the west-northwest near 16 mph with maximum sustained winds near 105 mph and higher gusts. Some additional strengthening is expected today, and Helene is forecast to become a major hurricane by tonight.
The forecast track turns Helene toward the northwest (away from St. Maarten) into the central Atlantic over the next several days.
At 11:00 am, the center of Hurricane Florence was located about 520 miles north-northeast of St. Maarten, and poses no threat to St. Maarten.
The St. Maarten Meteorological Department will continue to monitor the progress of these systems.
