SURFACE WINDS:
This afternoon through Friday midday: Northeast to southeast with a light to gentle breeze of 04 to 11 miles per hour, becoming variable and calm at times.

SYNOPSIS:

Weak instability and moisture in the lower levels of the atmosphere, in addition to light winds and daytime heating may cause some isolated showers during this forecast period. However, accumulations are expected to be minimal due to high pressure settling over the region in the upper levels of the atmosphere. Meanwhile, the weak Atlantic high pressure ridge will maintain light easterly winds across the region.

Swells from Florence are affecting the Northern and Eastern shores with seas forecast to peak near 7 feet during the next few days.

STATE OF THE SEA: Slight to Moderate           WAVES/SWELLS: 4 to 7 feet

SPECIAL FEATURE:

At 11:00 am, the center of Hurricane Florence was located about 1030 miles east-northeast of St. Maarten. Florence is moving toward the northwest at 10 mph with maximum sustained winds near 105 mph, and higher gusts. Some weakening is expected during the next few days.

The system does not pose a threat to St. Maarten.

The St. Maarten Meteorological Department will continue to monitor the progress of this system.
