SYNOPSIS:
The dominant Atlantic high pressure system will maintain light easterly winds, while the relatively drier air coupled with a plume of Saharan dust will restrict significant shower activity today. However, patches of clouds moving in the wind flow may cause an increase in clouds and showers tomorrow.
Seas are forecast to remain moderate during this forecast period, with a gradual increase towards the latter part of the week.

SPECIAL FEATURE:
At 11:00 am, the center of Hurricane Florence was located about 1090 miles northeast of St. Maarten. Florence is moving toward the northwest at 13 mph with maximum sustained winds near 120 mph, a category 3 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Some weakening is possible during the next few days, but Florence is expected to remain a strong hurricane through early next week.
The system does not currently pose a threat to St. Maarten.
The St. Maarten Meteorological Department will continue to monitor the progress of this system.
