Short circuit causes outage

POND ISLAND--A short circuit at the Pond Island substation of utilities company GEBE resulted in several areas being without power on Monday afternoon.

According to a press release from the water and light company, GEBE experienced “some issues” at its Pond Island substation around 1:55pm Monday which caused outages in parts of Philipsburg, Sucker Garden and Pointe Blanche.

GEBE technicians identified the cause of the outage as being from “a flashover on the high-tension system” (short circuit).

According to GEBE, power was restored to all areas, with the last area being reenergised around 5:10pm Monday.
