Shooting suspect surrenders to police Thursday morning

PHILIPSBURG-- After an all night manhunt by police, J.B, (42), also known as “Poya,” from the district of St. Peters, surrendered to police early Thursday morning for his involvement in the shooting incident that took place close to 7:00pm on Wednesday.

J.B. shot Immigration Officer Jason Juliet in the left leg during a heated argument. Prosecutor’s Office spokesperson Karola van Nie confirmed that the suspect had surrendered to authorities and that the investigation is ongoing.
Members of J.B.’s family had called the police to inform them that he would surrender and that he was on his way to the police station minutes to 2:00am.
Juliet took to social media and thanked supporters and well wishers for their prayers. He posted: “Not much I can say, but thank you to everyone for the prayers and support. So far I do not need surgery, no bones were hit and no arteries, thank the Almighty. Now it’s one step at a time.” He informed The Daily Herald that he is now home recovering from the incident.
The shooting took place in a Chinese restaurant on L.B. Scott Road in the vicinity of Benny Scots’ property. The two were arguing about a mutual friend when tempers flared and J.B. started to shoot at Juliet, who tried in vain to run away.
Juliet is the son of retired police spokesman Inspector Geronimo Juliet.
According to police, J.B. is well-known to local authorities.
