PHILIPSBURG--Government gave cruise vessel Sea Cloud II permission to take on fuel and provisions at Port St. Maarten on Thursday, March 26. The ship had no passengers on board and none of her crew were allowed to disembark.
Government granted the request for fuel and provisions “on humanitarian grounds” after the ship met “national port entry requirements,” according to Port St. Maarten.
After taking on fuel and provisions, the ship left Port St. Maarten around 3:15pm Thursday. As of press time Thursday, Sea Cloud II was anchored off Simpson Bay.
The vessel, owned by Sea Cloud Cruises, is 387 feet long and weighs 3,849 gross tonnes. The vessel can carry a maximum of 94 passengers and approximately 65 crew. Sea Cloud Cruises operates out of Hamburg, Germany.
