Scrap metal to be exported

The Ministry of Environment and Infrastructure VROMI and Steelcrushers BV have embarked on a project to remove all car wrecks, discarded zinc and other metals from the country. The company has brought in machinery, including a huge grabber, to start clearing the zinc depot next to the Little League Stadium.

The company will also remove the huge car wreck depot of the former Bakker Recycling and other items stored on the landfill. Many more wrecks are expected to be collected in the coming months. Reconstruction works will also increase the amount of metal debris. Government will pay to transport all of the scrap metal to Pointe Blanche for shipping off-island. Trucks Government received from the Netherlands for the post-Hurricane Irma clean-up will be used to transport the metal to the port.
