Scooter thief sentenced to 15 months in prison

MARIGOT--A young St. Martiner was sentenced to fifteen months in prison by the court in Basse-Terre, Guadeloupe, on July 13 for stealing a scooter at gunpoint from a man outside Mercure Hotel, Baie Nettle, on July 9.

He was charged with aggravated theft, attempting to conceal a vehicle, and refusing to obey orders.

The accused threatened the victim with a handgun, forced him to stop and stole his scooter without physical violence. The investigation was entrusted to the SRD detective section in St. Martin. On July 11, Republican Guard military personnel arrested the perpetrator identified as having committed the theft. He was placed in custody where he confessed to stealing the scooter.
