Schotte wants custody of kids

Van der Dijs was dropped off at prison by her attorney Marije Vaders.

WILLEMSTAD--Former Curaçao Prime Minister Gerrit Schotte demands sole custody of his children because their mother is serving her sentence in “Sentro di Detenshon i Korekshon Kòrsou” (SDKK). She thinks this is a trick to stay out of prison himself.

Cicely van der Dijs must do nine months for her role in the “Babel” case, where she was found guilty of money laundering, among other things.

Schotte has already served his sentence for accepting political bribes in the same case, but could go to jail again if he cannot cough up 1.8 million Netherlands Antillean guilders based on a separate dispossession procedure. The ex-leader of “Movementu Futuro Kòrsou” (MFK) then faces three more years behind bars.

It is a thorn in the side of Van der Dijs that her ex-partner is now taking advantage of the situation. She believes he is only looking after his own interests and wants to avoid going back to prison.

Van der Dijs made several attempts to avoid serving her sentence by means of suspension and postponement requests as single parent and employer with more than 200 workers. They were all denied by the court.

However, she will probably be released in February 2023 after serving two-thirds of her sentence with good behaviour, as is customary.
