Sandy Ground grocery store robbed Saturday

MARIGOT--A grocery store in Sandy Ground was robbed on Saturday evening, the Gendarmerie disclosed.

A man wearing a crash helmet walked in to the store at around 6:00pm and held the cashier at gunpoint before stealing the equivalent of about 300 euros in a combination of euros and US currency, Capitaine Emmanuel Maignan said.

The man escaped on a motorcycle. The robbery is under investigation.

Regarding the dead body found on Baie Nettle Beach on Thursday, Capitaine Maignan said he had no further information. An autopsy is awaited but the cause of death is sure to be drowning, he added.

“The fact that no one has reported a missing person locally suggests the deceased probably came from another island,” he said.
