Central Voting Bureau Chairman Jason Rogers is tipped to fill the vacant position on the Progress Committee. Minister of Justice Rafael Boasman made the announcement on Wednesday during the weekly Council of Ministers press briefing. Current Minister of Finance Richard Gibson Sr. was a member before becoming Minister. The Progress Committee comprises members from St. Maarten, Curaçao and the Netherlands, and looks at the execution of the Plans of Approach agreed to by the governments prior to country status on October 10, 2010.
Minister Boasman is optimistic that St. Maarten will get all its affairs in order and complete most of the Plans of Approach soon. He also announced on Wednesday that the much-needed fence for the Pointe Blanche prison will be constructed soon.
