Road works paused due to traffic jams

PHILIPSBURG--All public road works are temporarily halted to avoid crippling traffic jams around the country as experienced on Monday.

Infrastructure Minister Miklos Giterson said in a press statement issued Tuesday that the decision to have the work executed during daylight hours “was largely a financial one, as working overnight and on weekends costs considerably more money.”

However, it is now clear a reassessment is needed due to the “very negative impact” of the traffic delays on the community, he said.

The Council of Ministers was slated to discuss how to move forward with the project in its meeting yesterday, Tuesday.

Giterson will release an updated plan of approach to the public once such is finalised.
