SURFACE WINDS:  This afternoon through Thursday midday: Easterly with a gentle to moderate breeze of 09 to 17 mph.

 

SYNOPSIS:  

Available low level moisture drifting in the trades wind flow may trigger some passing showers across the local area. Meanwhile, the Atlantic high pressure system will continue to produce gentle to moderate winds.

Meanwhile, seas will peak near 5 feet during the next few days.

 

STATE OF THE SEA: Slight to Moderate         WAVES/SWELLS: 3 to 5 feet

 

SPECIAL FEATURE: Tropical Storm Gonzalo forms, expected to become a hurricane by Thursday. Forecast track keeps center of Gonzalo well south of St Maarten. At 11am, Gonzalo was moving toward the west near 14 mph and had maximum sustained winds near 50 mph with higher gusts. Strengthening is forecast during the next couple of days and Gonzalo is expected to become a hurricane by Thursday. This system currently poses no direct threat to St. Maarten. The Meteorological Department of St. Maarten will continue to monitor the progress of this system and keep the public updated accordingly.

 

OUTLOOK through Friday midday: Partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated showers.
