This afternoon through Saturday midday: East northeast to east with a gentle to moderate breeze of 08 to 16 miles per hour.

SYNOPSIS:  

The Atlantic high pressure system will continue to dominate the weather pattern across the northeastern Caribbean. As a result, generally fair conditions along with gentle to moderate easterly winds will prevail during this forecast period.

Seas are expected to remain slight to moderate for the next few days.

STATE OF THE SEA:  Slight to moderate       WAVES/SWELLS: 3 to 5 feet

SPECIAL FEATURE:

….Irma forecast to remain a powerful hurricane for days….

At 11:00 am Hurricane Irma was located near latitude 18.5 north, longitude 37.8 west or about 1660 miles east of St. Maarten. Irma is moving toward the west-northwest near 13 mph (20km/h) but is expected to turn westward by tonight and west southwestward by Saturday.

Maximum sustained winds are near 110 mph (175 km/h) with higher gusts. Fluctuations in strength are possible but Irma is expected to remain a dangerous hurricane through the weekend.

The Meteorological Department of St. Maarten (MDS) will continue to monitor the progress of Irma. Members of the public are advised to monitor the updates on this system.

OUTLOOK through Sunday midday: Partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated showers.
