COLE BAY--The Inspectorate of the Ministry Tourism, Economic Affairs, Transport and Telecommunications (TEATT) held general controls on Friday morning, pulled over several buses and inspected the vehicles.
The controls on Friday started at the Cole Bay roundabout.
The Inspectorate also reminded the public that the annual control of public transportation operators (PTOs) will start January 4, 2016. Controls will be conducted on an appointment basis only. The inspection has to take place before the 2016 number plates are issued. Additional information will be forthcoming about the weekdays designated for said controls.
The controls once again will be conducted in the vicinity of the Little League Ball Park on Soualiga Road opposite the Motor Vehicle Inspection Centre. The Controllers will be checking the PTO permit holders and their motor vehicles for compliance with the National Public Transportation Ordinance/Decree.
PTO permit holders should be aware of and ensure that they operate their motor vehicles in public transportation according to the relevant ordinances and decrees.
Taxis are motor vehicles equipped to carry not more than fourteen (14) persons, not including the driver.
Buses are motor vehicles equipped for the transport of persons, the use of which is subject to a fee. There are two categories of buses: “small bus” which transports less than 10 passengers and “large bus” which carries more than 10 persons (not including the driver). Buses travel along designated routes.
Tour motor vehicles are motor vehicles equipped to carry more than seven persons, not including the driver, for a fee, to be used for conducting rides of which providing transportation is not the sole object.
Unscheduled transport (G) vehicles are those equipped to carry more than 15 persons for remuneration, but not covered by bus, taxi, rental cars or tours.
The control will focus on PTO permit holders’ compliance with the national decree on public transportation with regard to the technical aspects and safety of their motor vehicles.
