Public schools to hold St. Maarten Day Parade

PHILIPSBURG--Oranje School will be hosting the 2018 Annual Public Schools St. Maarten Day Unity Parade. For this event students, staff, parents and invited guests will be parading through the streets of Philipsburg at 10:15am Friday, November 9, commencing at L.B. Scott Sports Auditorium.

  From the Sports Auditorium Friday’s parade will lead participants up Walther Nisbeth Road to the offices of utilities company GEBE, where they will take a right turn onto Schoolsteeg, then left onto Front street, left onto W.G. Buncamper Road to Nisbeth Road, where they will turn right at the Salt Pickers Roundabout to the Festival Village.

  Participants will be wearing St. Maarten Day T-shirts and jeans, with some wearing costumes depicting this year’s theme: “St. Maarten’s Icons of the Arts,”

  These icons are Louie Laveist, Lasana Sekou, Clara Reyes, Max Phelipa, Urmain “Youmay” Dormoy, Reginald “Bobby” Vlaun and Ruby Bute.
