MARIGOT--Singer Lydia Lawrence will be donating proceeds from her new Hurricane Irma-themed single to all the French-side schools, she stated recently.
The Paris-based singer was present at the Simeone Trott School in Concordia for its opening after the Toussaint holiday and the Omer Arrondell Elementary School in French Quarter, her birth place, where she sang the song for the children and interacted with younger ones in the classroom. She also donated school materials and chocolates.
“The song talks about Irma destroying my beautiful island, but how she comes back to help the children to grow and develop in a decent way,” she explained. “The song is called “Mon Ile, Mon Paradis” and is a collaboration with Michel Herbeveau. The chorus is done by Christiane Obidole of Zouk Machine and the music is by Freddy Assogbah. The money will help children to buy uniforms, school materials and food etc.”
Lawrence said she will continue to promote and sell the single when she returns to France on November 22, when the single comes out; 15,000 copies will be produced initially.
“I think the government is doing a good job here, but it is up to the people and us, the artists, as well to help after disasters like this, to make it better for the children,” she added. “They are our future.”
Aline Choisy, Principal of the Simeone Trott School, has been chosen to manage the proceeds from the single for Lawrence’s association.
Lawrence sang the song with school children before the start of classes and handed out her publicity material.
