Préfecture tells motorists to have car and documents in good order

MARIGOT--The Préfecture of St. Barthélémy and St. Martin reminds motorists of the importance of driving safely on the public roads.

This applies to driving an approved vehicle, in perfect order of road worthiness, with valid licence plates, car insurance and technical inspection. Riders of two-wheeled vehicles must wear a crash helmet and appropriate protective clothing and equipment.

Rules of the highway code must be adhered to, particularly to the use of turn signals. Comply with speed limits, and refrain from consumption of drugs and alcohol.

Adopt responsible driving behaviour; do not overtake dangerously and do not perform acrobatics (applies to two-wheeled vehicles) that would put you and other road users at risk.

The noise of unapproved mufflers and the high sound level of music played by vehicle loudspeakers at any time of the day or night, including weekends, causes harmful noise pollution. These selfish habits harm the quality of life of inhabitants and will not be tolerated.

The Gendarmerie is currently intensifying controls on public roads. The French State remains mobilised and counts on the contribution of all for safer roads.
