ST. EUSTATIUS--In a push for more transparency, the portfolios of Government Commissioner Marcolino “Mike” Franco and Acting Commissioner Mervyn Stegers were released to the public.

Stegers stated previously to The Daily Herald that they strive for transparency as they have nothing to hide. The government commissioners are, therefore, making a concerted effort to release information to the public.

The portfolios, which are normally divided between the Island Governor and two Commissioners in the Executive Council, are now being handled by the two government commissioners.

The portfolio of Commissioner Franco sees him watching over the Elections, Public Health, Compulsory Education, Building and Housing Control, as well as the Civil Registry.

He also commands Disaster Management, Public Order and Safety, the Governor’s Cabinet, Economic Affairs, Tourism, the Airport, Social Affairs, Culture, as well as Monument Care, Preservation and the Historical Core.

He also oversees General Affairs, the Planning Bureau, Constitutional Affairs, Roads and Infrastructure, Information and Protocol, as well as Labour and Senior Citizens Care.

Stegers’ portfolio includes Legal Affairs, Finance and Taxes, Personnel Affairs, Harbour, Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries, Education and Sport, Registry of Public Properties, Waste Management, Warehouse and Workshop.

He also overlooks Telecommunication, Government Buildings, Energy and Water distribution, as well as Information Technology, Environment and Nature Management.

Persons who want to make an appointment with the government commissioners may call Governor’s Secretary Millicent Romney-Lijfrock at tel. 318-2552.
