Police warn public about looting after Hurricane Maria Tuesday

PHILIPSBURG--The Police force of St. Maarten (KPSM) and the Prosecutor's Office (OM) are preparing for the approach of Hurricane Maria expected to pass through the area Tuesday.

The Meteorological Service expects the weather system to pass very close as a hurricane category 2. Authorities warn the population that looting, robberies, threats, possesion of firearms and other crimes will not be tolerated.

“Suspects will be immediately arrested and detained pending further investigation. Police and the military will act hard and conduct a zero-tolerance policy,” justice authorities warned in a joint press release.
