CAY HILL--Alexander Boasman was flown out to the Dominican Republic for specialized medical treatment on Friday, as he continued to fight for his life at the St. Maarten Medical Centre (SMMC) after a horrific traffic accident on Thursday morning.
Doctors informed the family that one of the policeman’s lungs collapsed, but he was responding to medicine given to him. He had been moved to Intensive Care Unit and family were given a few minutes to see him on Thursday afternoon. Earlier, several church ministers came to pray for the speedy recovery of the officer.
Close to 11:00am, Boasman was driving his scooter heading towards Philipsburg when he slammed into a Jeep Wrangler that veered off to the right and made a U-turn in front of him. One of his legs was also broken during the incident.
The officer remained in a coma at SMMC and was flown-off island for further treatment late on Friday. Police Spokesman Chief Inspector Ricardo Henson said they are hoping for the best and will give an update about his condition as soon as it becomes available.
The young lady who was driving the jeep is also in the hospital, but no update had been given on her condition as yet. Acting Minister of Justice Richard Gibson and Cabinet Chef Ruben Thompson and a number of police officers were at SMMC hoping for their colleague to pull through this ordeal.
