PHILIPSBURG--As the holiday season continues, the St. Maarten Police Force, as is customary, has issued several safety measures for residents. The police remain proactive with regard to prevention of crime, according to police spokesman Chief Inspector Ricardo Henson on Thursday.

The police management stresses the importance of the community being vigilant particularly at this time of year. “It is important that we look out for each other, because if one business is victimised it affects us all,” according to the police.

If anyone sees anything suspicious, they should not hesitate to contact the police by calling 911. Residents are also urged to follow basic safety practices to prevent being victimised; e.g., purses being snatched, being pick-pocketed or being followed.

Items of value should always be placed out of sight.

Additional safety measures being implemented are increased patrols in marked and unmarked vehicles and meetings with the various community groups.

The Detective Department is working diligently to resolve the pending cases. Persons with information are urged to call 542-2222 ext. 175 or 176. Persons wishing to remain anonymous should call 9300.
