PHILIPSBURG--Prime Minister Leona Romeo-Marlin and Tourism and Economic Affairs Minister Stuart Johnson have gained a stay of execution related to the vote on no-confidence motions tabled against them by opposition Members of Parliament.
The plenary session of Parliament dealing with the financing of the airport reconstruction was to resume today, Thursday. However, Parliament Chairwoman Sarah Wescot-Williams announced during an ongoing Central Committee sitting on a law on cross-border money transportation that the meeting will not go ahead. No reason was given for the change to the meeting. No new date has been given.
It is understood that scheduling of the meeting is affected by the travel plans of some MPs to Suriname. Three MPs - Silveria Jacobs (National Alliance), Rolando Brison (United St. Maarten Party) and Claude Peterson (St. Maarten Christian Party) are scheduled to fly to the South American country for meetings with Parliament colleagues there as well as Parliament delegations from Aruba and Curaçao.
