PHILIPSBURG--National Institute of Arts’ (NIA’s) “Music Brings People Together” project presents a classical concert by pianist Irina Kaufman-Brookes, students and friends in the intimate acoustic setting of the Black Box Theatre at John Larmonie Center on Sunday, March 10, starting at 7:00pm.
NIA’s second fundraiser under the heading “Music brings people together” is a demonstration of talents on the piano of all ages, starting from four years old. This is a special performance featuring the first-prize winner of the American Fine Art Festival in New York Valeria Kristina Perez Herrera from Costa Rica, who is in St. Maarten for a short visit.
“We recommend this concert especially for all aspiring piano students and their parents. You will be truly inspired,” said NIA Director Arlene Halley.
Pianist Kaufman-Brookes (Russia/United Kingdom) graduated from the State Russian Musical Academy Gnesins. Her awards include second prize and silver medal in the Second International Piano Competition in Andorra and award of recognition for her contributions to the young musicians’ development project American Protégé in New York.
She has performed numerous recitals in Russia, United States, France, Austria, Hungary, Belize, Caribbean Islands, Andorra, Costa-Rica and Spain among others.
In 2012, Kaufman participated in the recital dedicated to the golden anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain. Kaufman has recorded CDs with music by Mozart, List, Chopin, Brahms, Prokofiev, Saint-Saens, Horowitz, Wild, Grieg, Gershwin and others.
