Perfect storm

thumbnail page6e219Residents and visitors heading in and out of Pointe Blanche were stuck in traffic throughout Tuesday due to ongoing roadworks coupled with four cruise ships in port.

Police officers and members of the Volunteer Corps St. Maarten VKS battled with irate motorists prevented from getting business and/or errands done in a timely manner and upset visitors who had their day onshore crippled by oftentimes-stagnant traffic. Wait times along the route from Pointe Blanche to Philipsburg varied from 30 minutes to an hour. This continued traffic issue has led to calls from a number of people for the roadwork to be halted until the end of the cruise season.
