Panamanian students visit local university

PHILIPSBURG--A group of 26 students from several universities in Panama currently on a group campus crusade visited University of St. Martin (USM) to explore the campus, the degree programmes and possibilities of establishing a branch of their organisation at USM.

USM President Francio Guadeloupe welcomed the group and discussed with them the programmes and degrees USM offers and the benefits of studying in St. Maarten. He welcomed the Panamanian students to take a semester at USM in the near future.

The visiting students’ purpose is to share real world business experiences in the areas of leadership, spirituality, ethics and integrity, according to their leaders Tamara Morgan and Alfredo Adams, who attend Technical University of Panama UTP. Their organisation is established in 200 countries already and they wanted to explore the possibilities in St. Maarten and at USM.

USM Student Government Association (SGA) President Kiran Manglani also spoke with the visiting group from a student’s perspective, after which she gave the students a tour of the campus. “It is a good opportunity for USM and it is nice to have this group recognise us. We can exchange information about leadership, integrity, so it becomes an experience that both can grow from,” Manglani said.

The foreign students conversed with USM students during some free time on campus. Guadeloupe said, “It was good to see this, as USM is internationalising. With the cooperation with UVI we will be able to attract these international students.”
