The walkway of Prins Bernhard Bridge resembles a rusting curl of ribbon or a grotesque piece of art thanks to the force and winds of Hurricanes Irma and Maria. The destroyed walkway has forced pedestrians onto the busy bridge to compete with vehicles heading onto W.J.A. Nisbeth and Long Wall Roads. The absence of traffic lights and no streetlights at night puts walkers, including schoolchildren, in harm’s way frequently from large speeding trucks and even regular drivers on their daily commute.
