PHILIPSBURG--After half a decade of shifting from place to place, the Corporate Governance Council (CGC) now has a permanent office. At its inception, the Council was not allocated office space by Government.
The Council’s 2015 and 2016 budgets also have been approved by Prime Minister Marcel Gumbs, making possible the coverage of operational and staff cost.
The office is located on the fourth floor of Lea Complex at Cannegieter Street 15.
The fifth member of the CGC also was appointed recently. Rounding off the board of the Council is Attorney-at-Law Cindy Marica-Henderson of Mariflex Attorneys and Consultants. She joins Jose Lake Jr., Madelon Dijkhoffz, Perry Wilson and Charles Smith on the Council, which now is equipped with five members who bring financial, legal and economic backgrounds.
The latest developments at the Council are linked to “extensive meetings” with the Prime Minister’s office about issues and hurdles the Council has faced over the years, including lack of office space, finances and personnel, which have made it difficult for the Council to operate properly.
The Council’s “achievements” were made possible due to the cooperation of the Council of Ministers, in particular the Prime Minister, “who identified the importance of proper functioning of the Corporate Governance Council,” according to a CGC statement. The public can expect “a more visible” CGC thanks to the recent developments
