HARBOUR VIEW--Those who are accepted to become Dutch citizens will have to wait a little longer to take the oath to king and country. The naturalisation ceremony scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday, is postponed until further notice.
A new date, time and venue will be communicated to soon-to-be Dutch nationals in the coming days via the Consular Department of the Cabinet of the Governor.
Dutch nationality law is based primarily on the principle of “Jus sanguinis (right of blood)” and is governed by the Kingdom Act on the Netherlands nationality. Thus, citizenship is conferred primarily by birth to a Dutch parent, irrespective of place of birth. Children born in the Netherlands to two foreign parents do not acquire Dutch citizenship at birth, unless special criteria are met.
The Dutch nationality can be claimed via adoption and naturalisation, a process with several criteria.
