CAY HILL--The St. Maarten Hospitality and Trade Association (SHTA) will be hosting an all-encompassing job fair at National Institute for Professional Advancement (NIPA) from 10:00am to 4:00pm Saturday, October 24.
With this initiative, SHTA is attempting to bring together job-seekers and businesses regarding employment. Job seekers will have the opportunity to meet with businesses from a cross-section of the current industries in St. Maarten.
Representatives of construction companies, hospitality establishments large and small, job placement agencies, marine sector industries, etc., will be on hand to present their vacancies and to provide general information on the types of jobs available in each industry. The government's Labour Department also will be on site.
Job seekers are encouraged to register online through SHTA's website. Registration takes a few minutes and the possibility of uploading a résumé will be available online as well. Participating businesses can pre-select candidates based on their résumés for interviews that can be conducted prior to or on the day of the fair.
"Don't have a résumé? No problem! There will be the opportunity to create or upgrade résumés on the spot at the fair. As part of preparing and/or encouraging job-seekers to be properly prepared for their interviews and/or application procedure, educational sessions will also be available for each job-seeker," SHTA said in a press release.
"We encourage each participant to attend one of the educational sessions. The useful information being provided by the session facilitators will benefit job-seekers in their application procedure, thus increasing their chance of success. The information being provided in the educational sessions has been compiled from the business community's observations regarding those who seek employment.
"This means that current requirements and observation points will be conveyed to the attendees. In addition, the educational sessions will include information on how to present yourself for an interview. Tips and techniques will also be provided on how best to communicate and sell yourself as a candidate for the job you are seeking."
Educational institutions such as University of St. Martin will be on hand to provide information regarding the upgrading of academic and practical skills.
"Businesses that would like to participate are encouraged to register for a space at the fair. Space has become quite limited, as businesses have been enthusiastic from the onset of the announcement of the Job Fair at the 2015 SHTA AGM [annual general meeting – Ed.] held on September 30," SHTA said.
Windward Roads, Prime Distributors, Sonesta Group, Divi Little Bay Resort, Oyster Bay Beach Resort, Aquamania Adventures and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC) are amongst registrants.
Interested establishments are requested to register on the association's website. The registration fee is set for US $100 for SHTA members and $200 for non-members.
The SHTA website
www.shta.com/Events will direct seekers to the job fair, where the appropriate form can be selected.
SHTA promotes sustainable economic development for its members and the creation of a fair marketplace, in cooperation with the social partners.
