PHILIPSBURG--After hearing about the rapidly sliding cost per barrel of crude oil on the world market, St. Maarten motorists will finally benefit from the decrease as of 6:00am Saturday. The price for unleaded gasoline will dip to NAf. 1.60 per litre, down from the December fixed maximum consumer price of NAf. 1.67.
Those motorists with diesel burning vehicles will see a bigger decrease when the per litre price slides from NAf. 1.23 to NAf. 1.12.
The Ministry of Economic Affairs announced the price decrease on Friday afternoon citing the “drop to US $30 per barrel” for crude oil on the international market.
The local price for unleaded gasoline and diesel include all taxes such Turnover Tax, Import Duty and Liquid Throughput Fee.
For unleaded gas, the petrotin posted price is NAf. 0.65 per litre, freight NAf. 0.06, import duty NAf 0.29, throughput fee NAf. 0.08, wholesaler’s margin NAf 0.23 and ToT (five percent) NAf 0.06. Those amounts add up the maximum wholesale price including tax at NAf 1.38.
The maximum wholesaler’s price for unleaded gas is added to NAf 0.14 retailer margin to get the consumer price of NAf 1.53 plus ToT of NAf. 0.07 to arrive at the per litre price at the gas station of NAf 1.60, according to the Ministry.
