All roads cleared, safe for motorised traffic

PHILIPSBURG The Minister of Infrastructure VROMI has given the all-clear from roads on St. Maarten following this morning heavy rainfall due to a tropical wave. Several roads and intersections had become inundated with runoff rainwaters making them impassable as was the case with Zagersgut Road.

The closure of Zagersgut, from the gas station to the Seventh Day Adventist Church, has been lifted and the road is opened again to traffic.

All roads and intersections are clear at this point in time and is safe for motorised traffic based on assessments of the road network executed by VROMI.

Motorists, however, are still urged by the Ministry to continue to drive with caution and to beware of street flooding and to avoid any flooded or flood prone areas during any heavy rainfall. Those travelling along hillsides should drive with caution and beware of rock-falls and possible landslides.

The heavy rainfall advisory remains in effect until 6:00pm today, Monday.

Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected to continue the afternoon through tonight, according to the Meteorological Department.
