Minister reports significant progress with water supply

ANGUILLA--Improvements are being made all the time to the water supply, and by October 1 this year, there will be a good supply of water island-wide. Minister of Infrastructure, Communications, Housing and Utilities Curtis Richardson was speaking during the House of Assembly meeting on Friday morning, in response to questions put by Leader of the Opposition Palmavon Webster.

He said the main two sources of water are Valley Well Field, where brackish water is processed at the plant at Crocus Hill, and the reverse osmosis plant at Crocus Bay. The latter is a more expensive source, but a new plant is to be put in place by Caribbean Water Treatment that will supply more than 260,000 gallons of water daily by the end of August. Several new water pumps have been bought and these will soon be installed.

CuisinArt Resort is supplying water to the western part of the island and this has considerably eased the problems. Richardson said rationing will gradually be reduced until by the end of September all areas will get a good supply.

The Ministry is also addressing the problem of leaks, he noted, and this is also helping. He appealed to people to stop taking water illegally.

There is a new Board for the Water Corporation that Richardson said is working hard on the many problems. Chairing the Board is Christopher Richardson with members Mark Romney, Serena Banks, Malcolm Webster, Leilia Richardson and Morris Davis.
