~ Information on entity postponed ~
PHILIPSBURG--The urgent meeting of the Central Committee of Parliament on the “new entity” to monitor St. Maarten’s, Curaçao’s and Aruba’s use of financial support from the Netherlands was held behind closed doors on Tuesday afternoon.
Prime Minister Silveria Jacobs had requested earlier that the meeting be held behind closed doors, which was granted by Parliament Chairperson Rolando Brison.
Neither government nor parliament has disclosed any information about the developments surrounding the “new entity.”
Jacobs said last week that Dutch State Secretary of Home Affairs and Kingdom Relations Raymond Knops was to inform government about the new entity on Monday.
Curaçao newspaper Amigoe reported on Wednesday that Knops had requested a postponement from the Aruban government to provide any information about the new entity. The newspaper said Aruba Prime Minister Evelyn Wever-Croes had confirmed it on Wednesday morning.
According to the newspaper, Wever-Croes said Knops had informed her that all documentation about the new entity would be provided on Monday, July 6.
This means that the third tranches of the interest-free loans will not be decided on Friday, July 3, as was previously stipulated, but on Friday, July 10. The new entity is one of the conditions imposed by the Dutch government to receive the third tranche of financial support.
