The patient from Saba arrived by medevac helicopter in St. Eustatius before being flown to Fundashon Mariadal in Bonaire on Sunday morning.
SABA--A patient from Saba, who was not displaying any coronavirus COVID-19 symptoms, was evacuated to Fundashon Mariadal hospital in Bonaire, via St. Eustatius, on Sunday morning.
A medevac helicopter with the Saba patient onboard touched down at F.D. Roosevelt Airport in Statia at 9:58am. A medivac aircraft arrived approximately 15 minutes later. The patient was then transported to the waiting aircraft.
On hand were medical personnel from Queen Beatrix Medical Centre, airport and ambulance personnel, and interim acting airport manager Ric Isarin.
Saba Health Care Foundation (SHCF) stated that with the increasing number of infected COVID patients in St. Maarten the situation of how patients from Saba can be assisted has become worrisome.
“Although St. Maarten Medical Center can, and will, still accept our patients, we would like to alleviate some of the centre’s burdens. Fundashon Mariadal in Bonaire offered their assistance by providing an air bridge for emergency patients via medevac,” SHCF said.
