Man dies after heated argument

ST. PETERS--Derick Wilson’s lifeless body was found outside his car in St. Peters just after 7:00pm Saturday. According to witnesses, Wilson (27) was among a group of men hanging around outside a popular supermarket on Genip Road when an argument started within the group.

Wilson and another man started to get physical and a knife fight followed. Wilson ended up dead and the man believed to be responsible was also seriously injured. Police arrived on the scene and the suspect surrendered himself to police while Wilson did not show any sign of life.

Police spokesman Chief Inspector Ricardo Henson told The Daily Herald that forensic officers were piecing together evidence, but he could say that the suspect identified as last name F. was injured and treated on the scene by paramedics and then taken to St. Maarten Medical Center for further treatment. The suspect was immediately arrested after treatment.

The cause of this stabbing is under investigation. The suspect is well-known to police. He served as a member of the Volunteer Corps VKS for several years. He was relieved of duty three years ago after mistreating an elderly woman in the same St. Peters area.

Wilson leaves behind a nine-year-old daughter and a grieving mother and sister. Police continue to interview persons who were in the area as their investigation continues.
