Man crashes car and injures himself soon after stealing it

SIMPSON BAY--A man G.P.R, who stole a vehicle from two women on Billy Folly Road in Simpson Bay, ended up injuring himself when he crashed the vehicle soon after stealing it.

Police spokesperson Chief Inspector Ricardo Henson said in a police press release on Monday that two women were driving in their vehicle on Billy Folly Road on the evening of Friday, August 31, when they were surprised by a man they did not know who jumped into the back seat of their vehicle.

The women, who were on their way from a local restaurant, feared for their lives and jumped out of the vehicle leaving the suspect behind. The suspect then jumped into the driver’s seat, drove off with the car and crashed it soon afterward on Welfare Road, injuring himself.

A police patrol was sent to the scene to investigate the accident. At the same time the owner arrived on the scene and informed the investigating officers that the injured man had stolen the vehicle from her.

The suspect was arrested on the spot after being treated by paramedics and he remains in custody for further investigation, Henson said.
