“Celebrity Edge,” the line’s newest cruise ship, made her inaugural call at St. Maarten on Thursday morning.
Tourism and Economic Affairs Minister Stuart Johnson led a delegation on board to welcome the ship’s captain, crew and passengers. Tourism representatives from both sides of the island were part of the delegation. Ship Captain Konstantino Nestoroudis told his visitors his innovative ship was built with 27 per cent more suites than any other on the seas. Johnson said St. Maarten enjoys “a healthy and mutually beneficial relationship” with the cruise industry. “We want to see it continue to grow in numbers. We thank you for your commitment to the island, and our goal is to work even closer with the cruise industry … and improve our tourism product.” In photo: St. Martin Tourism Bureau Director-General Aida Weinum, Port representative Hector Peters, Port board member Fernando William, Johnson, Nestoroudis, St. Maarten Tourist Bureau Interim Director May-Ling Chun, Staff Captain Matthaios Kanangreas, St. Martin First Vice-President and Tourist Office President Valerie Damaseau.
