Long-time visitor shares the love with ‘Rebuild SXM’ shirts

PELICAN--Alexandra Clayton decided to distribute “Rebuild SXM” T-shirts to businesses around the island as a way of inspiration after the passing of devastating Hurricane Irma on September 6. Clayton and her husband musician Don Clayton have been coming to the island for years and saw the devastating images of the wreckage left behind by the category 5 hurricane.

“I wanted to do something to uplift the spirits of the people of this wonderful island. While in the United States in September, I prayed that the aftermath of the hurricane wouldn’t be too bad, but when I saw that, I was grieving,” she said.

Clayton visited Atrium Resort on Sunday morning and presented the staff and management with the shirts.

“I wanted to do something that would uplift the spirits of the people of St. Maarten. My friend and I already sent 9½ tons of relief items after the hurricane but I wanted to do more. ‘Rebuild SXM’ is a message of love and hope. I adore this island and a phoenix rising out of rubble is how I envisioned the logo on the shirt. The people are strong and the shirt embodies that,” she said on Sunday.

Clayton said she had taken shirts to Marigot, Cole Bay, Simpson Bay, Philipsburg and several other areas. “This will show visitors that we are in this together and we will rise stronger and better,” she said.

Management of Atrium thanked Clayton for her contribution of the T-shirts on Sunday.
