PHILIPSBURG--Philipsburg Jubilee Library officially opened its doors in a temporary location on the first floor of the Adolphus Richardson Building on W.J.A. Nisbeth Road on Friday evening in the presence of Minister of Education, Culture, Youth Affairs and Sport Wycliffe Smith.
Smith and Secretary-General Shermina Powell-Richardson complimented the library board and staff on their efforts and wished them much success in their temporary location.
The temporary facility houses a toddler’s and children’s section, a juvenile section with most of the exam books, an adult section, a national-history section, a study room and a computer lab.
The library will be opened for the public during its regular opening hours from today, Monday, March 4, at 10:00am.
The library will have the following services available: new membership applications and renewal of membership, assistance with electronic library “Libby” membership, borrowing and returning of books, facility to read local newspapers and magazines, and computer-research services. The new location will enable the library to prioritise digital innovation, it was stated.
A grace period for overdue books will be in place from March 4 to April 1. During this period clients with overdue books do not have to pay fines.
The library’s doors were closed for almost three months due to the hurricane-battered state of its building on Voges Street. Plans are still in the works for a permanent location for the library where the full collection can again be accessed by the public.
