Jacobs receives presentation on student identification cards

PHILIPSBURG--Minister of Education Silveria Jacobs visited police headquarters earlier this week and received an extensive explanation regarding the recently-implemented identification card for secondary school students.

Community Police Officer (CPO) Felix Richards has been involved in the coordination of this project from the onset and gave Minister Jacobs a complete presentation in the presence of Philipsburg District Head Chief Inspector Bloeiman and project members.

The presentation also included other ongoing projects that are directly tied to the school identification project. The details of these projects will be disclosed once they are finalised and ready to be implemented. The “Student Identification Card” project has been incorporated into the rulebooks of every secondary school on the Dutch side.

The ID card will enable authorities and school management to better monitor the students during school hours and school events. The introduction of the Student Identification Card is the first phase. The project consists of several phases, according to the police.

One of the stages includes upgrading school bus drivers who drive students on a daily basis. This is to create a new sense of safety and security when travelling to and from school districts, by creating safety and security on school buses. Parents once again can allow their children to take the bus to school.

The Student ID is also very valuable, as students can claim discounts at several participating partners. The partners are listed on the Facebook page “St. Maarten Student ID card.”
