PHILIPSBURG--Persons hoping to renew or obtain a new driver’s license and identification card will have to wait before they can do so.
The Department of Civil Registry on Friday announced that the issuance of drivers’ licenses and ID cards has been suspended until further notice, due to technical difficulties.
The department said the cards cannot be issued at this time, but noted that it is “working diligently” to "get the matter resolved." The department promised to inform the public once the issuing of the cards has resumed.
The department urges the public to check the validity of their documents, and if necessary, they can visit the office and begin the renewal application process for their cards. Applications that comply with requirements will be accepted and clients are required to supply a hard copy passport-sized photo not older than six months.
At the Philipsburg branch walk-ins are on Monday to Friday (except Wednesdays) from 8:00am to 10:00am. Appointments are done from Monday to Friday in the afternoons. Wednesdays are by appointment only.
At the Public Service Centre in Simpson Bay, walk-ins are from Monday to Friday, except on Wednesdays, from 8:30am to 12:00pm, and on Wednesdays from 8:30am to 12:00noon. No appointments can be made.
