~Restaurant expects to reopen soon~
AIRPORT--The Inspectorate of Public Health Social Development and Labour VSA closed Mary’s Boon restaurant on Tuesday for what Inspector General Dr. Earl Best says were health safety violations.
However, the restaurant said there were just some minor things that had to be rectified and these would be done urgently so that the restaurant could reopen in about 24 hours.
Best told The Daily Herald on Tuesday that a random inspection had been conducted at the establishment on Monday and inspectors found “pest infestation, cockroaches and rats.”
“There were also a lot of stray dogs walking around the restaurant with ticks and fleas. They need to control the pest infestation,” Best said.
He said this is the second time the inspectorate had closed Mary’s Boon for the same problems. The establishment also was closed about two years ago for similar violations. He said inspectors would continue to conduct controls in the area.
Mary’s Boon Restaurant Manager Raul Max Brown said in an invited comment that the establishment was busy doing whatever small adjustments were needed so that the restaurant could reopen in the shortest possible time.
“There weren’t any major issues, just some general cleaning violations, but we will rectify the issues,” Brown said, adding that there were no rats and no stray dogs. He said two regular exterminators fumigated the premises every two weeks and one was scheduled to spray the establishment on Tuesday evening. “We will do everything that needs to be done to rectify everything so that we can reopen as soon as possible.”
Another staffer said minor issues such as hand sanitizer being required for the area where employees wash their hands, as well as a tissue box and the area where employees wash their hands needing to be separated from where dishes were washed were part of the report of things to be corrected.
